Halloween Community

Halloween Community

As the crisp autumn air settles over Travis Country, we find ourselves on the brink of two significant events: the spooktacular celebrations of Halloween and the important civic duty of voting in the upcoming elections. While these occasions may seem worlds apart, they both offer us a chance to engage with our community—one through festive fun and the other through meaningful dialogue. Let’s explore how we can cxome together, embrace the spirit of Halloween, and ensure our neighborhood remains a welcoming place for everyone of all ages.

Halloween is a time for creativity, fun, and community bonding. Here are some ideas to help keep the season festive and engaging:

  • Decorate your homes and yards. There is an amazing Skeleton Wedding taking place on Trail West that is worthy of a drive-by both day and night!  Perhaps go on a Halloween-themed neighborhood walk to admire each other’s decorating efforts!

  • Attend the annual neighborhood BOO BASH at Blue Valley.  It’s a wonderful way to bring families together, enjoy food, and show off creative costumes. You may even win the costume
    contest!

  • Coordinate with your neighbors to pass out candy and socialize in the driveway. Offer to host a pumpkin carving event for your immediate neighbors to help build community on your street. Ask the kids about their costumes and how they decided to be who they are this Halloween. I have seen some creative costumes in the past several years.

  • This Halloween, let’s emphasize the things that unite us—our families, local traditions, and the joy of watching our children experience the magic of the season. A fun way to bring neighbors together is to organize a neighborhood potluck or block party on Halloween evening. Many streets in Travis Country already participate in this tradition!  Sharing treats and stories fosters connection and makes the neighborhood feel even more like home. It’s an excellent way to break the ice and build relationships with your neighbors.

  • While Halloween might be about ghosts and goblins, it’s also a perfect opportunity to promote kindness. When engaging with neighbors, whether in person or online, remember that a little respect goes a long way. When conversations turn political, strive to listen actively and respond thoughtfully. Let’s
prioritize empathy and understanding, creating a safe space for everyone to express their views without fear of judgment.

As we gear up for Halloween, let’s remember that our neighborhood thrives on the relationships we cultivate with one another. By focusing on kindness, inclusivity, and community spirit, we can navigate the current political climate with grace and understanding. This season, let’s make Travis Country not just a place to live, but a community we’re proud to call home. After all, nothing is scarier than a divided neighborhood—let’s choose to build bridges instead. HappyHalloween!
